Never buy a Lexmark Printer!

Christmas 🙂

One present was a AIO Lexmark X6575 Printer with WLAN, etc. The installation process seamed to be easy. I installed the printer from a Windows PC, by inserting the CD and clicking Next a few times. BTW: The program asked me if I want to install the printer per WLAN or per USB, where I clicked WLAN. The answer: Connect your printer with an USB-Cable :-O

While the printer (maybe) works fine on Windows there seems to be no way to get it running under Linux or especially under Ubuntu. The OpenPrinting Community says the Lexmarks X6575 is only a paperweight.

Even Wine does not work for the installer because the installer says I only have 4294967295 MHz of the required 800 MHz.

Conclusion: Never buy a Lexmark Printer if you are working with Linux/Ubuntu! If you get it as present you may install it your Windows VirtualBox-Client, share it and use it from Ubuntu.

Does anybody have an ppd-file for that printer? The printer installer in Ubuntu may works with such a driver.

Don’t forget the cost of the ink cartridges. Lexmark is the highest cost per page on inkjet cartridges out there. I like HP and Canon better.

    My choice of printers are:
    Number 1: HP
    then probably, Canon
    Xerox (especially lasers)
    .
    .
    .
    .
    Lexmark
    .
    .
    Papermate
    Eversharp
    Plain lead pencil
    Crayon
    .
    .
then Epson, but only as the very very last resort! Especially this POS epson I am working on now!

MY Lexmark 2650 is working just fine with the X86 driver. Support for 64bit is atrocious. But I do agree, the cartridge prics are a scandal.
